Optimize your website – know your audience
Did you know that there is a free online tool that allows you to gather valuable data about your website visitors? Google Analytics allows you to track page views, referral sources, conversation rates, and much more.
Google Analytics does require some technical knowledge to set up (there is some tracking code that needs to be embedded into the back end of the website). That said, there are literally thousands of web developers (including myself) who can get you up and running with Google Analytics very quickly.
Once you’re set up with Google Analytics, you’ll want to look at all the reporting options available. Some valuable reports include:
- Audience Device Overview – shows the breakdown of your visitors by desktop, mobile, and tablet.
- Social Overview – shows which social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, etc.) are driving the most traffic.
- Search Engine Optimization queries – show which search key phrases are driving the most traffic to the site.
In addition, you can easily compare traffic data to previous periods to get a quick sense of how your website is performing over time.
These are just a few of the many reports that Google Analytics offers out of the box.
