Everyone is talking about the color of #thedress.
Were you online last Thursday (Feb. 26)? If so, you must know what I’m talking about. Even CNN is talking about the white/gold/black/blue ensemble. Our opinions may differ as to the color of this Internet showstopper, but there’s one thing nobody can deny: #thedress post is one of the hottest online fashion debates ever recorded.
In fact, BuzzFeed — the outlet responsible for publishing #thedress post — said the dress story “drew more visitors to our site at one time than ever before.”
Fashionistas like Taylor Swift and Kim K. debated the color of the dress. Some folks saw a blue and black dress; others saw white and gold. The thing that blew me away is the fact that this story reached so many people.
The debate over immigration is racking Congress. Conflicts in the Middle East are boiling over. Yet the Web is in a frenzy over a dress?
Appropriate or not, #thedress will go down in the annals of social media history.
The takeaway? Never underestimate the power of social media.
